What are throws?
Throws are a kind of small blanket, and they’re so called because you ‘throw’ them onto things, such as the backs of chairs and sofas, beds or garden benches. They can definitely hide a multitude of sins, so if you have a shabby armchair that will cost too much to upholster then a couple of throws will give you a completely new look. They are also great for purely decorative purposes, such as adding a pop of colour or tying the décor of a room together.
How to use throws
This is pretty much down to you! Keep them neatly folded over the back of chairs or on bench seats while they’re not in use, and they’ll add a bright splash of colour. When you need a little extra warmth, use them as a blanket or knee cover. You can even use them to keep pet hair off sofas, or take into the garden as an impromptu picnic blanket, though they may require a dry clean after!
How to choose a throw
First, decide what you’re going to use your throw for. If it’s for pets, children’s rooms or occasional outdoor use then look for something hard-wearing and washable such as fun fur. If you’re looking for a longer-term investment which you’ll use for years, then natural fabrics such as wool, cashmere or mohair will add a touch of luxury to any room.
